How to Find Student Accommodation in Paris

Where to look, what to check on a listing and how to secure a furnished room in Paris without travelling for viewings.

Start with the type of stay, not the listing

Most failed housing searches in Paris start in the wrong order: students open dozens of listing sites before deciding what they actually need. Decide first how long you are staying, the earliest date you can move in, whether you want a private room in a shared apartment, and the monthly budget you can commit to. Those four answers eliminate most of the market immediately and make the remaining listings comparable.

Short stays are the hardest part of the Paris market. A conventional lease is built around a full year, so a single semester, an exchange term or a three-month internship needs a provider that works with shorter stays on purpose. On Jump In the earliest move-in date and availability are set per room and shown on the room page, so you can filter out anything that does not fit your dates before you invest time in it.

Compare what a listing actually states

Read every listing for facts, not adjectives. What does the rent include, and what would you still have to set up yourself? Is the room private or shared, and how big is it? Which shared spaces exist in the apartment, and what are the house rules? Which metro stations are recorded for the address? When is the room free? Who is the accommodation provider, and when will you see the agreement?

A listing that answers those questions is comparable; one that does not is a risk. On a Jump In room page each of those points comes from the room and property record itself, so two rooms in the same apartment can differ and the page shows the difference rather than repeating a generic description.

Furnished and all-inclusive saves the first two weeks

Arriving into an unfurnished room means buying furniture, opening utility contracts in your own name and waiting for connections — in a language you may not speak yet, and usually in the same week classes or an internship begin. A furnished, all-inclusive room removes that entire sequence: the room is ready and one monthly rent covers the services listed on the room page.

Ask which services are included in writing, and check that the list is on the page you are booking from rather than in a chat message.

Prepare your file before you enquire, not after

Whatever route you choose, you will be asked to identify yourself and your studies. Booking a room through Jump In means supplying contact details, nationality, school, your stay dates, an emergency contact and an identity document with your request. Having those ready turns a several-day exchange into a same-day one.

Requests are reviewed by the local city team, and the team may ask for more information. Nothing is charged before your request is approved and the rental agreement is issued — and no platform can promise in advance that a specific room will be approved for a specific date.

Book remotely, with a written agreement

You should not have to fly to Paris to secure a room, and you should never send money for a room without a written agreement identifying who is letting it. Through Jump In the sequence is fixed: request, review by the Paris team, rental agreement from the independent local accommodation provider signed electronically, then the first month of rent paid online with the Booking Service Fee shown separately before you pay. The administrative fee and the security deposit are paid at check-in to your City Manager.

Jump In is the booking platform: it publishes the rooms, reviews requests, prepares the rental agreement and collects the first month of rent online. The accommodation itself is provided by the independent local accommodation provider identified before you pay and named in the agreement you sign.
