Documents Needed to Rent Student Accommodation in Barcelona

What to have ready before you request a Barcelona room, and what is asked at each stage of the booking.

Prepare the file once, use it for every request

Most delays in an international housing search are document delays: a scan on another laptop, a passport photograph that is unreadable, a school letter nobody has requested yet. Assembling everything once, before you find a room you want, is the single most useful preparation step.

Keep files as clear PDFs or photographs with the whole document visible, named so you can find them under time pressure.

What a Jump In booking request asks for

The application asks only for what the booking needs: your contact details, nationality, your school or internship, your stay dates, an emergency contact, and an identity document. You create an account so your application, agreement and payments stay in one place.

Nothing else is required to send a request. The Barcelona city team may ask for further information while reviewing it, and you will be told exactly what is missing.

Identity documents and studying in Spain

Bring a valid passport or national identity document — for EU students the national ID is generally enough for travel, and non-EU students should travel with the passport used for any visa or study permit application. Requirements for entry, residence and registration are set by the Spanish authorities and your own consulate, not by Jump In, so check the official sources for your nationality and stay length.

Keep digital copies accessible from your phone as well as your laptop; arrival is exactly when a document is hardest to retrieve.

What happens after your request is approved

Once the Barcelona team approves your request, the rental agreement from the independent local accommodation provider is issued and you sign it electronically. You then pay the first month of rent online, plus a Booking Service Fee of 3% of that first month of rent plus €0.25 shown separately before you pay.

The administrative fee and the security deposit are paid at check-in to your City Manager in Barcelona, and the deposit is returned after check-out under the conditions written in your agreement.

A short checklist

Identity document; your school or internship details; the exact stay dates you want; an emergency contact; and an email address you actually read, because the review and the agreement arrive there.

Jump In is the booking platform: it publishes the rooms, reviews requests, prepares the rental agreement and collects the first month of rent online. The accommodation itself is provided by the independent local accommodation provider identified before you pay and named in the agreement you sign.
